Pumps with mechanical seals that seal rotating shafts are utilised in many industries. Since a mechanical seal is a device with wearing parts, unless it is constantly lubricated, it will ultimately fail.

As a result, Seal Plans are used in the majority of industrial pumping applications. Seal plans provide a pressurised barrier or unpressurised buffer fluid from an external source to the space between the pumping unit inboard and outboard seals, to ensure minimal seal face wear by maintaining the optimal seal chamber environment.
